of W. C. T. U. rean by the secretory at

Thc work of the W. C. T. U. is so far-
reiicliing, it is almost impossible in a brief
outline to tcli whiit has been accomplish-
ed.
Much of the work started by the W. C.
‘ T. U. has become incorporated in the cur-
riculum of other institutions. Scientific
teiiiperance is regularly taught ir_i the pub-
llc schools, and Temperance Sunday ob-
served by the Sabbath Schools. In other
cities policeiind-jail mntrons were in
stitutgd by this ,quiet band of, workers.
The-_inil und poor house have been visited
and o. Thanksgiving tea given to the in
mates of the poor house for the last
fifteen years. On Christmas each inmate
hnd ii. pound box of candy and B. card per-
sonnlly addressed. Three loads of coal
and coke, flour, sugar, tea and other
groceries were distributed, while six
fiimilies whose homes had been devastat-
ed by drink, were provided with whole
dinners and the children with toys, candy
and clothing.
One drunkard's boy was provided with
everything and sent to school for the
year where he did good work. He has
new been adopted by a couple without
children, and will be tnken into a refined
wealthy home. We hope in such cnviron
ments that he miiy beconic ri good man.
Think what that menus in the long
future. _
Some literature has been distributed,
nnd many flowers have helped to relieve
the wearlness otlife, with their message
of glory and sweetness. Great work has
been done among the children.
Alroyal Legion was enthusiastically
welcomed by the little ones, and ninety-
two children were pledged against ltcbac-
co and intoxicating drinks.
Twenty-two meetings have been held
one parlor social, _one on narcot
ics,one on patent. medicines and nine
mothcr’s meetings. The last named was
the most popularns “child culture" has
been tiiken up, and many helpful les-
sons learned.
Tiic-re is still work for the W. C. T. U.
if only to teach liic's sweetest lesson, thc
joy of doing good. `
