Where did we come from? Why are we here? Where are we going? It has been my concern for some time to address my fellow students and other university community people as to these 3 all-important questions. By the way, this is not just for old fogies, so, please consider this, and just take a few moments of your time to read what | have to say. First of all, where did we come from? Really!! Please don’t laugh!! | realize that if you were to puzzle this out and go to the anthropology department in the Main building on campus to find out, you would leave with the answer that we are here via evolution. Most scientists would tell you that over millions of years through the process of natural selection and by Darwin’s “survival of the fittest” theory we have arrived. A completely “perfect” human being with the wonderful faculties we have and enjoy is here by chance happenings from an original “piece of slime”?? Please (| can’t stress it enough ), reconsider !! | am writing this because | have gotten to know wonderful people in my university career, both students and faculty, who are being deceived as to this great issue. What is my opinion, you may ask? Well, it is not my opinion -- it is fact. |am taking my answers from the only unchanging source in this unpredictable, fickle world -- the Word of God, the Holly Bible. | realize that there is not much use for the Bible today and please, don’t stop reading now!! However, in Proverbs 1:7 it says “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” This is something which is really lacking in today’s society -- the fear of God. As well, in Il Timothy 3:16; “All scripture is given by inspiration of God...”; and in Il Peter 1:16; “For we have not followed cunningly devised fables...”. In God’s word, | read “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” (Genesis 1:27) and “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”(Genesis 2.7) This is where we came from. Why are we here? You may have heard the saying “We're here for a good time, not along time. So, have a good time...” Every time | hear this, my heart sinks, as | think of millions who believe that the grave is the end of us all. Therefore, say they, “Live it up!!”. Consider this: “God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needeth anything, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; and hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on the face of the earth and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation (man’s lifespan); that — they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though hebe not far from every one of us: for in him we live, and move, and have our being; as_ certain also of your own poets have said, ‘For we are his offspring’. Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and baastes: sted sestantan ances teatae ty charteed wadeodan tenis beret darher berrtin diertrershan hen teerber ters, kasstesd taaisctendeniwetasterty tsdaetes’ teotetenteotertertestertetestertestertenterteyrtaadaetertsrys peso aaierietensrieten> beter dertertertentertertertedertertertertertertartertertertertestors berdasd feeF oem ell a ' gt, stexiesios teadeed 2 exteteh of ofete:)| (opted osotetios oslo eters etertest deteries eased § wtotete we ele ie te et xsterterd | -erterhoterieries heeded > edendesterderterts ieedest ised odertesderterderie §= fesierion. ‘sdaertesderdaas tern 3s Wiestextestester edests det 4 rierterteriertert = sterterterion. teotaetens, taster 2 tesdeteety te ote: te het i det: eet tert bertaad PY serie" dp te a fet Merde? cert) 0s ehestesd 0terterte:§«= etorioss art sate 2m im arin. was! de 4" Leet, eter tie ce hmtenies teheten teodesdeadeo tes dartehiatestantestesdertententendestendies man’s device. And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men everywhere to repent: because he hath appointed a day in the which he will judge the world in _ righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained [the LordJesus Christ]; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised from the dead.” Acts 17:24-31. Therefore, we see that we are here to seek the Lord. In Isaiah 55:6 it says , “ Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near.” Another way this can be saidis as is written in Amos 4:12, “... prepare to meet thy God...”. Where are we going? In one word -- ETERNITY. Everyone realizes that there will come a day when they will die. Odds are stacked against you that in 100 years from today, you will be somewhere in the great, unending eternity. Think of it. Scary, isn’t it?? However, more importantly, in fact, the most important question YOU WILL EVER FACE, is “Where will | be?”. In the words of Job, “ But man dieth, and wasteth away; yea, man giveth up the ghost, and WHERE IS HE?”. ( Job 14:10) Many people today take the realities of a real heaven and a real hell as a myth. From the Bible, | stress, this is no myth!! Read Luke chapter 16. Just remember, you have a one-way ticket to eternity. “Are not my days few? cease then, and let me alone, that | may take comfort a little, before | go whence | shall not return, evento the land of darkness andthe shadow of death...”. (Job 10:20,21.) Please, consider these things. Have you ever wondered “Why am | here?”. The answer -- to prepare for eternity. Did you ever stop and consider the state of this poor, sick world? It is heading for judgment. Dr. Charles Beard, the American historian, says, “All over the world the thinkers and searchers who scan the horizon of the future are attempting to assess the values of civilization and speculating about its destiny. “H.G.Wells declared before he died, “ This world is at the end of its tether. The end of everything we call life is close at hand.” “What is the problem? Why the degradation?” you ask. The answer is SIN. The world is plunged in sin against a holy, righteous God and every man, woman, boy and girl has been born in sin and is utterly depraved before the sight of God. Read Romans |:15-32 and Romans chapter 5. Mankind can do absolutely nothing to merit favour with God. “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” ( Romans 3:23 ) The consequence: “For the wages of sin is death...” (Romans 6:23 ) Because of mankind's sin, he is answerable to God, and this is most solemn. However, the good news, the reason why | am writing, is to tell you that there is a way out. It is through the life, work and death of the Lord Jesus Christ. Maybe his name is nothing more than a swear word to you; however, “Neither is there salvation in any other, for there is none other name under heaven, given among men, whereby we must be saved.” ( Acts 4:12 ) The Lord Jesus Christ is the Son of God and he became a real man, in a body, to come to this earth. Oh, you have heard how he came, as weall doat the Christmas season. But, why did he come nearly 2,000 years ago? Thank God, he was willing to come because of his great love to us, so that he could suffer the wrath of God against sin, which had condemned us. The place he suffered was just outside of Jerusalem at Calvary when he was crucified, and when during three hours of darkness he was judged by God for our sins and, thank God, he cried “My God, my God, Why hast thou forsaken me?” ( Matthew 27:46. ) He finished the great work to put away our sin and he cried “It is finished!!” ( John 19:30. ) “Settled forever, sin’s tremendous claim; Glory toJesus; blessed be his name; No part-way measures doth his grace provide; Finished the work was when the Saviour died!” He was buried, and rose again the third day after being crucified by the Roman Empire, and he is in heaven today. What a wonderful message to cling to in a world which is heading for judgment!! What about you, dear friend, has there been a moment in your life when you trusted Christ? Why not repent and trust him now and receive the forgiveness of sins? He has said “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me, | will in no wise cast out.” (John 6:37) Also, “Come unto me, all ye that labour, and are heavy laden, and | will give you rest.” (Matthew | 1:28) Please get a Bible, read it, and find out for yourself these great issues -- it is the only reliable source. Trust no one, no religion, no philosophy or scientific theory -- trust God and his Word only!!! will sum up my message with some of these beautiful scriptures: “FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD, THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON THAT WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH IN HIM SHOULD NOT PERISH, BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE. FOR GOD SENT NOT HIS SON INTO THE WORLD TO CONDEMN THE WORLD; BUT THAT THE WORLD THROUGH HIM MIGHT BE SAVED.” John 3:16,17. “ FOR THE WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH; BUT THE GIFT OF GOD IS ETERNAL LIFE THROUGH JESUS CHRIST, OURLORD.” Romans 6:23. “FOR WHEN WE WERE YET WITHOUT STRENGTH; IN DUE TIME, CHRIST DIED FOR THEUNGODLY.” Romans 5:6. “WHO HISOWN SELF BARE OUR SINS IN HIS OWN BODY ON THE TREE, THAT WE, BEING DEAD TO SINS, SHOULD LIVE UNTO RIGHTEOUSNESS; BY WHOSE STRIPES YE WERE HEALED.” | Peter 2:24, “BUT HE WAS WOUNDED FOR OUR TRANSGRESSIONS, HE WAS BRUISED FOR OUR INIQUITIES, THE CHASTISEMENT OF OUR PEACE WAS UPON HIM; AND WITHHIS STRIPES WE ARE HEALED.” Isaiah 53:5. “FOR CHRIST ALSO HATH ONCE SUFFERED FOR SINS, THE JUST FOR THE UNJUST, THAT HE MIGHT BRING US TO GOD, BEING PUT TO DEATH IN THE FLESH, BUT QUICKENED BY THE SPIRIT.” | Peter 3:18. Most sincerely, A fellow traveller to eternity. Doing the dirty work Throughout the 92-93 semesters, the maintenance of the Main Building has been less than adequate, to say the least. It appears that there is a sufficient number of employees to properly clean the Main Building; however, the maintenance staff seem to spend much of their work period sitting, smoking, and chatting. If the university needed more ornaments, itis presumed that the university would not have purchased ones that smoke. | realize that the positions that these people have filled is not the most glamorous area of employment but, they have chosen to fill these positions. These employees are being paid to clean the Main Building so, why is the cleaning not being done properly? What do they think they are getting paid for? It is kind to give employees some space, and not be looking over their shouldersall the time but, in this case, itis time for someone to evaluate the productivity level o! these and other maintenance staff members throughout the Campus, with the exception of the Sports Centre and the AVC, as these facilities are well-maintained. If on the rare occasion that one o the staff of the Main Building is actually “caught’ working, they are either mopping the floor (i.e pushing dirty water over the floor thereby evenh distributing the grime) or casually pushing th vacuum while reading the bulletin board. Th classrooms remain in a state of despair for length’ periods. The washrooms are disgustingly filthy. Th: sinks are so dirty one has reservations abou touching the taps. How isa person expected to us: the facilities when they are in this condition? Effort aren’t even being made to, at least, make it appea that the facilities have been cleaned properly. Th anxiety that a person would encounter whe contemplating actually sitting on a toilet is certain not worth the relief one might otherwise experienc: Students ask where their dollars are being spent, i this case, several employees are beingpaid to do th work that any “one” monkey could do. Tired of Spending More for Less Facing hatred This is a response to some of the views that wer expressed in the recent edition of the X-Pres These views were based on the recent GL supplement. The “TRASH”, as the supplement was referre to, gave people a chance to be educated on th views and feeling of homosexuals. | also pay tuition here and |’m tolerant of tt material that is published in the X-Press. Tt majority of which is hetro-sexual. | havea right 1 have my voice heard as well. The hatred and discrimination that w expressed in Junior Gallant’s letter is the reas¢ why | will not attach my name to this letter. | a proud of who | am but | do not wish to be tl recipient of discrimination and hatred from tho who feel it is their right to do so. | suggest that N Gallant get a life instead of writing letters onan iss! he obviously knows nothing about. | was impressed with the supplement and fi that the X-Press staff tried hard to get feedba from UPEI students to fill the supplement. It wot be nice if there could be a weekly section devot to GLBissues. This way people who are looking! information about GLB’s have an opportunity a easy access to it. Also if GLB issues were publish weekly, it would not make such a spectacle out it. Thank You , A voice for the Minority!
