EEE sentria LA aa Fn RE nau estes cin tis ~ i 0 LL SLA eatin nO tO Tributes te the Dead Archbishop, Many of the Protestant clergymen of Teronto made reference to the sudden death of Archbishop Lynch in their churches on Sunday last. Rev. D. J. McDonnell of St. Andrew's church, in the eccurse of some feeling remarks said; Our hope is that through the grace of Christ our brother who has fell asleep after his long day of service is at home with the Lord, seeing with clearer vision than any of us now see, known even as he is known.” Rev. Dr. Wild, said: ‘*God bless our Catholic friends who h ive been bereaved of their Archbishop; comfort their hearts ; bless the mourners; grant them a successor who shall work for their good; may he be a worthy successor of the one they have lost." - , . . Rev. J. M. Cameron, of the East End Presbyterian < hureh said ‘*The death of Archbishop Lynch coming so unexpected would, he was sure, stir the great heart of humanity, for.here was a man falling in the midst of his labors. These lessons ought not to be forgotten, but should sink deep into the hearts of mankind, and remind them constantly that the duty of all was to be ready. Rey. 1. W. Jeffrey in the Queen street Methodist church referred in generous and feeling terms to the sudden death of the Archbishop. ++ a +o oe - Imperial Federation League. The great meeting held in Toronto last March has attracted a lot of attention in England, and the League in England con- sider it to have been an event of such im- portance in their history, that they have sent arequest to the secretary of the Canadian League in Toronto, asking him to send copies of the proceedings in pamphlet form toallthe members of the League Council. This body consists of some 350 members, and contains the names of a large number of the most promment men throughout the Empire of all shades of politics, as well as leading scientists, literateurs and churchmen of all denomi- nations. In this list, Canada is represented by such prominent statesmen as Sir John Macdonald, Sir A. T. Galt and others, while India, Australia, Tasmania, New Zealand, South Africa, British Guiana, the West Indias, and a number of the minor colonies are similarly represented. It may truly be said that the League is gaining strength throughout the whole Empire, and this is clearly shown when in one and the same month, itis able to chronicle two such events asthe holding of the meeting in Toronto, and the opening of a branch of the League in Tasmania. -_ moe + aa Local Notices.
