Sir,-There seems to be a desire a- mong certain persons to convey the impression to the citizens that the increased tax that was proposed to be levied on banks is an _unjust one- iifiis impression is erroneous. The banking institutions of Charlotte- town do not pay anything near what they should pay in City taxes. If citizens will compare the taxes paid by mercantile firms in this city whose profits are none too great with the meagre taxes paid by banks which are all paying very large profits, in most cases to shareholders outoido tho Province, the conclusion must: bef that the City(louncil was, perfectly ,iustided in endeavoring to have their taxes increased. Charlottetown is badly served in the matter of adjust- ing her ow'n eiflaira cspmially lu- the matter of taxation and it swms to me that this condition will always be maintained while we are subject in those aiiairs to the rule of our friends the Country Legislators who da not seem to understand or care about our needs. This is a live subject for independ- ent citizens. Yours truly, TAXPAYER. Charlottetown March 4th, 1910. Pownal, March fith. HORSE NOTES.
