W. "Gint" Cain, Yarmouth, defending champion; Frank Meilke, Halifax; Jack Harris, Nova Swtia champion, Wolfville, and Percival Streeter, Saint John. - Cain defeated F. R, Risteen, Fredericton, when, an ertra ‘hole was necessary to break a tie, Cain then requiring six strokes against seven for Risteen. Harris defeated Profes- sor E. 0. Turret‘, Fredericton, 2 and 1. Meikle defeated Don Skinner, St. Andrews, 5 and 4. P. Streeter defeated G. Parker Laldlaw, Hali- fax, 2 and 1. Streeter will meet Meikle in the semi-finals tomor- row morning while Cain plays against Harris. One of the most exciting ‘matches of the day, and the hardest to lose, was that between the defending champion and Risteen. All square at the 18th hole, they were forced to play another. Cain remained in the running by a single stroke when he took six while Risteen put his ball into a ditchand required sev- en, having been penalizcd one. Streeter and Laidlaw, old rivals, alternated in placing their balls in- to the woods and see-sawed along with a. one-hole margin. Laldlaw became entangled in a barb-wire fence, where he could not get at his ball, and this gave Streeter the edge. Harris was one up on Turner at the 10th hole and fought hard to increase this advantage to two with one to play at the end of the match. Don Skinner, 18-year-old sensa- tion from St. Andrews, met , his waterloo in the person of Frank Meilke, several times Maritime chamipon. Skinner, new from the junior ranks, sprang a surprise in the morning play with a brilliant victory over J. N. Ross, well-known player of New Glasgow. They both shot almost par golf this morning. but he fell to pieces before Meilkc in the afternoon. Cain, Streeter, Harrie and 'I‘umcr represented the Maritlmes in the recent inter-provincial tournament at Toronto.
