In the garden as anything moved now will have several weeks to become established before frost. It is also the month to look at the garden with a critical eye and to note the improvements needed and pos- sible to make. Then after the thoughtful planning necessary to a satisfactory garden, work is needed to carry out these plans. In this way the requirements for next year are more easily arrived at. Of course your bulbs for fall plant- ing should be ordered at once. There is nothing that will help us over the long winter as flowering bulbs in the home and in the garden to look forward to in early .spring. Let bulbs bring bright- ness and gaiety into your home and garden. It is a pleasure to open the package of bulbs with their promise of beauty to come. Over at the Nursery the other moniing there were many lovely flowers to see. A small annual bed was very beautiful backed by the (bod hedge of Cotonaasier. More ahd more I realize that all garden planting should have a good back- ground to bring out the beauty of planting whatever it may be. Here were planted bright yellow snap- dragons with aalvia and purple petuniss and also petunias dark blue in color. These were edged with lovely panaies in many colors. All together it looked like a color. lul tapestry woven on the green grass. with a frame of the hedge .In the background. The roses were good to see and new varieties were noted for 'fnext year". The shrubs are won- derful and the Rhododendronii and Asaleas had bloomed.profusely in early spring and now were covered with buds for blooming again. The Mahonla shrub I liked very much .value when ordering for certain places in the garden. These shrubs will have the advantage of the good field growing in nursery rows and when bought at the nursery it will be possible to plant the isame day and survival and good growth assured. Many fruit trees are sent out from the nursery each season and also the overbearing strawberries. The Superintendent likes the dwarf apple trees which were laden with large smooth beautiful apples though they are only three years old. The ease with which they can he gathered and the spraying done should appeal to all. For small gardens they are ideal and more of these fruit trees will be planted every season. The Silver lace vines covered the new lattice fence and were a good background for the many colored roses in hybrid and poly- anths varieties. Some of the Rug- osa's were covered with beautiful colored haws and others had frag- rant hlooms. In the greenhouse the carnations in yellow were very fine and nothing is nicer than fragrant carnstlons but they do require good culture. it was a happy morning spent among these lovely flowers not forgetting the lily-pond with the willows planted all round.
