J.. was suddenly attacked on Tuesday ulgli‘. with convulsions that had many of the features of hydrophobic. tHe threw him self about in his agony and tried to bit»- himself. as well as everything within his reach.’ He also growled like an angry dog. At times it required the united‘ strength of four men to prevent him from injuring himself. He did not manifest any dread of water, however.‘ « [Hardy-was bitten about a year ago by a pet dog and a few months ago he was bitten again by the same animal. There were no suspicions that the dog was affect ed with rabies at either time. Hardy has been an inveterate cigarette- the case attributes the trouble solely to this cause, slthought it is thought the bites of the dog may have aggravated the r trouble. ‘ Henry Rinehart, a young man from New Hope, died at Lambertville, N. J., Wednesday. from, excessive cigarette smoking. He had been working in the. repair shops of the Pennsylvania Railroad Company since Monday. Wednesday he fell heavily to the ground while at work, and when picked up was unconscious. His features were horribly distorted, and his flesh turned purplish black. He was revived for a time, but of which he died. He confessed that he was an in- veterate cigarette smoker, and that he had been warned that the vice would kill him. During the previous three days he had smoked 17,Qsc'aagrs, and his daily average was four. He smoked almost'in- ' cessantly, and his lips and fingers were a \ deep yellow from the smoke stains.
