Eight schelarships will be open for competition at this examination—two for each county and two for the City of Charlottetown. These scholarships can be competed for by pupils ef both sexes, under 19 years of age, who have veen in actual attendance at some district school, witliin the county or city for which they may compete, during at least six months previous to the date of the examination. GRAND |ixcurston.—The steamer ‘ Prin- cess of Wales” will leave Charlottetown Wharf on Tuesday morning, 20th July, inst., at G o'clock, for Murray Harber direct, and will leave that port again at 10a. m., for Pictou, leaving Pictou on return to Murray Harbor about 2 p. m.; and will leave Murray darbor for Charlettetown at er about 6 o'clock in the evening. The corn harvest will be very small in the nerthorn districts of Prussia, and only half of the ordinary harvest is expected, A great deficit in Russia, Hungary and Orrawa, July 8. From enquiries made in many quarters in the Ottawa Valley crops promise very well. Spring wheat will perhaps net be as good a crop as last year, but farmers will have nothing to complain of, Des Moinns, lowa, July &. A terrific rain storm occurred in this sec tion last night, and twenty miles west of here, taking the form of a waterspout. At Van Metre the tewn was submerged three feet, and forty rods of the embankment of the Chicago & Rock Island read was wash- ed away. The Pacific express, which left Chicago yesterday morning, is at Winter Sett. A part of the cupola of the Court House was blown away, and the Chicago and Rock Island railroad reund-house de- molished. Corn, is crushed and badly twisted, causing serious damage. The worst effect of the storm is westward. New York, July 8. The United States Grand Jury, to-day, appointed a committee of nine citizens to eXamine steamboats in. this district, whose owners are required to obtain certi- ticates from the local board of steamboat inspectors, all Lonven, July 8.
