Tue proprietor of the Toronto Mail has purchased a large property in that city, and it is intended to build a splendid publishing house, which shall be the handsomest in the Dominion. AN inquest was held on the body of Joseph Scully, alias Mitchell,—the Indian found drowned at Morell on Monday even- ing last—before Edward B. Alleyne, Esq., J. P., and a jury, when a verdictof ‘‘found drowned, accidentally,” was rendered. Conviction.—Murdoch MeNeill, of Ver- non River, was convicted and fined before J. R. Bourke, J. P., on the 21st inst., in the sum of two dollars with costs, for an assault and battery upon Joseph McMillan, of Cardigan Bridge, and two dollars for in- jury done the said Joseph McMillan. Tur schooner ‘‘C. B. Jones,” Capt. B. F. Swan, cleared to-day from Souris, for the United States, with 2,972 bushels pota- toes, in bulk and barrels, loaded by Mr. Simon Chiverie, for Messrs. F. 8. Hanford & Co., of this city. We understaid that that this is the last shipment of potatoes from P. E. Island this season. The cargo is, we are informed, one of the best that has been sent forward from Souris this year. W. C. Bourxs, Ese., of this City, lost a very valuable mare to-day, under the fol- lowing circumstances: Mr. Bourke’s son and two ladies were out driving. The mare took fright, ran away, and in her headlong career dashed her head against the side of Mr. Duchemin’s house, corner of Prince and Dorchester Streets, and was almost in- stantly killed. P., had the misfortune to break his arm, while skating on the Kennebeccais, at Rothsay, near his residence, on Saturday afternoon last. The fracture is at the elbow and is very painful.
