He is seeking top quality nature photos to be considered for the fpublication. BOA 3CD. [Ill oflV NATURE ESSAY CONTEST. The Canadian Nature Federation is currently sponsoring a national nature essay contest open to students 18 years of age or under. The essay may be on any aspect of Canadian nature. Possibilities for topics include descriptive or interpretive studies of a habitat or ecosystem, a study of the life history of a species of plant or animal, or a statement on an environmental issue. Entries must be typed, double spaced, and should be about 5,000 words long. Pictorial essays (i.e., a series of sketches or photographs with interpretive comments) may also be submitted and should be approximately the same length (20 pages). A number of prizes of $200 each will be awarded and, if suitable, the winning entries may be published in "Nature Canada". Contest closes December 31, 1979. For further details contact the Newsletter Editor. NATURE SLIDE COMPETITION. Winners of the 1979 nature slide ; contest were announced at the May meeting of the Natural : History Society. First prize went to Kathy Martin for a :‘lovely shot of a bluejay on the nest. Second and fourth ' positions were awarded to Ian Scott for two back-lit photos { of dew bedecked timothy and cabbage leaves. Third place “went to Gerald MacDonald for his picture of a house in rithe sunset. Congratulations to the winners and to all the {iother participants who contributed so many fine slides.
