Matt. 272 33-50. “He was wounded for our trans- gressions, He was bruised for our iniqulties."-»Isa. 532 5. POINTED SUGGESTIONS. , By Rev. D. W. Snider. No one can convey a meaning which is too intense when writing or speaking of the ignominy of death upon the cross. The Romans rc..aril- ed such a. death as carrying with it the deepet shame. There w=~s n_- possible dishonor could aitec' ltVcl to the memory of a man uuit»- at great as that of having been cruc- ned. The word “excr=iciatin;_\,’ whici. sends a shiver tl rough the flesh at the mention of it, so tort-_iring and terrible is the pain it suggests comes from the word "crux," or cross. And this was the excruciat- ing, rcproachful, shameful, horrible form of death to which Jesus, the Lamb of God, was rlairr 'r-'usly and ,eeiingly scnt aft-r trial df unsezmly --nd hiileous hast- and of the mwf' =»ertidious and exe rzilile ci --rr Cie! :lc was Uri.-ci"e<’:. Ilow does it come to .».-ss, the-_-, that the cross is now a sm-red sym- hol? It is not so with the g. l`l~ftin_c or gallows. Protestants, ln _ their |-|-,pnduition of popery, fell into a prejudice against the use Of #HY- tli-ing that it might be conceived would credit Roman CatholiClS.u ‘with a remnant of good judgment in t‘:ings rtligious. That was a mis- tilre. Because Roman t`a.thi.lir.“ -unite a wrong or an idolatrous us-_ -I the cross is no reason wh.te_vei viiy Protestants ought. not to honor .s a. sy'nl>ol what they revere in their hearts as a 'teildllflg' an* memory. As a mutter of foci., there is nothing so dear to the heart of a Christian as a sign or symbol of sacrificial suffering and of the death of sin as the cross. Why? Because of Jesus. “Far be iti from me to glory save in the cross of Jesus Christ." ‘ In thc study of any lesson taken from the gospel narratives it is wisdom to read the parallel accounts to he found in the others. This is a suggestion worthy of acceptation in following the record of the crucifix- ion. Matthew, it will be observed, has put into his story of it, more fully and witlimuch less relief than the others, the abusive and insolent in- cidents :ind acts by which justice was outraged in what befell the Savior of men at the hands of those who compassed His death. Luke and John add the gracious “say- ings” which came from His death- parched lips and tell of the care He had for His mother and the salva- tion Hc wrought out for the dying thlcf at His side. It would appear that the reason why Jesus refused the potion which was offered Him whereby the agoni Hc suliercd would have been lessen- ed wau that He might continue to the very end to say and do the things of love. And this reminds us that we must not study th) lesson for today as one might rehearse somel tragic drama. _Rather fasten upon its teaching in the light of the Scrip- tures as a whole. Otherwise we are. simply in the company of the idle] and the jeering crowd who waggedi their heads at Jesus in what tiieyl conceived was the fitting climax to His hypocrisy. and worthlessncss. Think of the proplietic in connec- tion with the crucifixion. The Gol- den Text is taken from one of its chapters. Explain if possi*-le with- out the fact of Jesus crucified. But what enlargement its explanation gives in the light of that fact. Oh, how it reaches and commands the heart. The love of Christ constrain- eth us. V . The Remedie With a Record Father Morriscy’s “No. 10” For 'lhroat and Lungs During his many years of practice Father Morriscy successfully treated thousands who were suffering from Coughs, Colds, Bronchitis, Asthma, and Inflammation of the Lungs. His favorite prescription was a Cough Mixture Bild Lung Tonic that came to be called “Father Morriscy's No. io." _ Unlike the majority of cough mixtures, "Father Morriscy’s No. Io" does not depend on such drugs as Opium and Morphine to deaden the irritation and give temporary relief-in fact, there is not a trace of any of these dangerous drugs in it. The simple but edective remedies provided by Nature herself were selected and combined by Father Morriscy, with remarkable skill, into a medicine that has earned the name of a. “Lung Tonic" as well as a Cough Cure. It soothes the inflamed membrane of tlxc throat or lungs, removes the irritation or mucus that caiises the coughing, relieves the congestion, and restores the parts to a healthy condition. Morethan that, “No. io" tones up and strengthens the whole system and fortilies it against future colds. For ordinary winter coughs and colds “No. io" is unsurpassed and is one of the safest remedies you can use. Trial size 25c. per bottle. Regular size 5oc. ' . ii . »g._.__ , _ , I 'Father Morrisey’s “No. 7” For Kidney and Rbeumatism When the slightest exposure to dampness or cold bring; rheumatic aches to joints or muscles, it’s a sure sign that the blood is wrong. It’s loaded with Uric Acid, poisonous and exceedingly irritating-formed from the worn out tissues and waste matter taken up by the blood from different parts of the body. When things are working right this poison is immediately filtered from the blood by the kidneys and got rid of. But sometimes the kidneys do not keep up with their work-the blood gets overloaded with Uric Acid and it collects in the fibres of the muscles-in the joints; in the valves of the heart. Then there’s a case of Rheu- niatism, caused simply by defective action of the kidneys and brought on by exposure. ’ Father Morriscy had a wide experience in treating Rheumatism, and an exceptionally successful one. The prescription on which he depended was one of his own called "Father Morriscy's No. 7.” It acts directly on thé kidneys, and has a toning, invigorating effect on these organs, helping them to clear themselves of the accumulated Uric Acid and to get working properly once more. Then they quickly purify _the blood-and the cause of the Rheu- inatisni is gone. The joints liniber up, the pains go away and the disease is eradicated from the systein.
