MARY HAWORTH Wife Finds Difficulty Trusting Erring Husband Dear Mary Haworth: Having read your column with great interest for 15 years, I am hop- ~ @g that you can-help-me. Bob andI have been married —happily, 1 thought—for 2 years. Recently, however, it has come to light that he stepped out of line a year or so ago with someone I counted a very. close friend. Let’s call her Jane. When I finally realized how naive I had been and asked him about it, he readily admitted the attraction but said it hadn’t am- ounted to anything. This I bel- feve; but still I can’t quite dis- miss it from mind: » I recall several occasions when he had reason to stop by hér house, which I thought nothing | about at the time. Now of course I realize why.he went and he doesn't deny it. He has been wonderfully un- derstanding about my appre- hension and more than willing to Jet me talk about it. However, I still can’t get hold of myself. This concerns me for I am sure he really loves me; but how can Jane has no idea that 1 know of this; and for Bob's sake I Mustn’t let her know, as it would betray his confidence and hon- esty. However I find it very difficult to be nice fo her | _ or even to be around her. Thank you for any suggestions. J.G. Dear J.G.: The truth is, you ean't recover from your former trust in- Bob. It was a blind trust, based on the illusion that he possessed all the plus-qualities | of character that you suppesed | he had. For help in getting this en-| compassing view of life, read C.S.
