And Its Attractions to Tourists. Prince Edward Islands summer climate is delightful, and the scenery is oeautiful and quietly picturesque. Sur. rounded by the Gulf of St. Lawrence, i' enjoys all the coolness of the sea breeze. and the advat t-ages that can only be de- rived from sea bathing, at about 65 de- grees. Charlottetown has over 12,000 in- habitants. and is the capital. It has many great retail stores,besides a large wholesale trade. It has a Gas Light and Power Company, two Electric light plants, and a street railway is in embryo. It has a tlrst class water works and sewerage system. It is famed for its wide and shaded streets, its many pleasant drives, the principal of which is the new Park Boulevard. its attractive surroundings, pure water, and clear, cool and bracing air. It is widely known as one of the healthiest cities in Canada. It has two hospitals, many churches and a large and elegant new Opera House. 1 y also has several time public buildings 1 and a market which is one of the chief sources ofthe citizens’ pride. It has one of the largest and best equipped pork-packing establishments in the Dominion. On its west side is Victoria Park-a favorite rt hil summer reso -w e on the east are the magnificent new Bnimings ana Driving Park. Chief among its public squares is Queen Square in thecentre of the city. beauti- fully laid out with blooming plants of steamers run regularly on the bays and ttants. It is sltuatedon beautiful Be- deque Bay. lt has the largest and tinast departmental store in the Maritime Pro- vinces,besides having other large retail stores. It has an Electric Light Plant, and a water works system and sewer- age are being agitated tor. The hotels are--Clifton. Buss, and Campbell. Georgetown and Souris have a popu- lation of about 1.000 each. In the former are the Aitken,and Tapper hotels and in Souris the Sea View. At Cape Traverse, a very pleasant summer resort, is the Lsnsdow ue hotel. In Albertou, the Albion Terrace and Wisner. In Tignish the Railway; in Kensington, Clark's and Commercial ;in ° Montague, Mcllonald, and in Mount Stewart, Clark’s and Manson. The following hotels open for the summer semen: At Hampton, Pleasant View ;at Stanehope, Mutch’s; and Cliff. At Bxackley Point. S|n.w’s; at Rustico, Seaside; at Halpeque, North Shore, and Hodgson House at Tracadie Beach, Acadia; at Alberton, Seaforth, and at Pownal, Florida.
