If it is a question of loyalty to Christ ori 1 loyalty to a loved one. then we‘ 3 must choose loyalty to our Lord. > i In chapter 5. verse 21 of is. iletler to the Ephesians. the Apostle Paul outlines the basic ‘ precepts of Christian family life. This concluding statement all the preceding paragraph intro- duces the principle of mutual submission. Exhorting wives to be in sub- jection to their husbands. Paul is not saying “obey.” though this is found elsewhere in his writings. He jcction that is merely the vol- untary submission of one Chris- tian to another. It reflects his regard of the family as a divine institution wherein husbands have the responsibility of lead- ership. support. protection and loving care: his reasoning being that the husband is the head of the wife. Just as Christ is the head of the church. Recognizing that the greatest' danger of selfishness lies on the masculine side. Paul charges husbands to love their wives as much as they love themselves. even as much as Christ loved His church. The husband who makes his wife and home a con—j taking the comforts and giving venience. they offer “Don't; forget Tippy's treat!" Even if we’re abit; late leaving for church, Susan and Mark must take their paper bag of surprises for Tippy the squirrel. Tippy lives in the park beside the church. and he's one of many happy, heart-warming things that our family looks forward to on Sundays. We are rearing our children in the Christian faith because we know from our own experience how much it means to young people growing up. Without a right sense of values. youngsters are so likely to get into trouble. Already Susan and Mark are. learning to trust in the loving protection of God, and to tut-ii to Him with their little problems. Through the stories of Jesus they are beginning to understand what it means to follow Him. We pray that this child- hood pattern will strengthen and form a steadfast foundation for the whole of their lives. No parents could ask for more. Mr” m.
