Commencement Exercises Last Evening, BISHOP MACDONALD’S SILVER JUBILEE CELEBRATION. A Choice Programme Presented in an Excellent Manner. The commencement exercises in St. Jo-eph’s Convent, last evening, were of a most interesting and edifying character, aod were greatly appreciated by those whose privilege it was to be present. This being the year in which Bishop McDonald celebrates the silver jubilee of his ordina~ tion, the exercises bad a special beariog upoo that interesting event. The exercises took place in the Sodality Hall, in which atemporary stage had been erected for the purpose. Over this stage andalong the sides were wreaths and garlands of evergreens and natural flowers entwined in which werea variety of smal! flags. Across the front of the stage was the inscription, “Vivat pastor bonus ad multos annos,” the translation which is “*May our good pastor live for many years.” In tke centre of the inscrip-~ tion were the figures 25, indicating the number of years that have elapsed since the es.eemed head of the diocese was raised to the dignity of the priesthood, and Over the arched entrance to the hall was the word “‘Welcome,” in large letters nesiiingin a profusion of flowers and ferns. The children occupied elevated seats on each side and in the rear of the Stage, their bright young faces beaming With joy in sympathy with the occasion. The programme will be found below: PART I, Dueit— Marche Militiare.....5......cccsseserees Grand Chorus—“Hall to the Festal Day” RIOET cc sndeen vececcee . The salutatory and ad- Mrecg were well written and replete with good wishes for His Lordship. The drill wasa pretty feature. Each little one carried a flag, some of which were emble- Imstic of important events in the life of His Lordship. One flag contained the figures 1873, ind cating the year of his ordination, an- Other 1875, the year in which he aesumed age charge of Georgetown, a third 690, the year of his consecration as Bishop, and a fourth 1898, the year of his silver jubilee. The drama, “Mystical G fix,” was likewise a very attractive fea-~ ture. The spirits represer.ted were thoze of music, flowers, gratitude, poetry, prayer avd the guardian angel,—those imperson- ating them being Misses J. Wynne, G. Griffin, M. Wise, M. A. Callaghan, A. MeGovnell and Rage Connolly. The choruses by the little ones were highly cred.table;"and the rendering of “How he saved St. Michael’e,” indicated the poses- sion of elocutionary talent which it woul d be well to still farther cultivate, The distribution of medals and prizes was made by His Lordship the Bishop, who spoke in terms cf praise of the exer- cires end the gool work that was being done in the cause of education by St. Josep h’s Convent. In returuing thanks for the expressions of good will regarding his silver jubilee, His Lordship made a feeling reference to the condition of Pev. Mchael McMillan, of St. Teresa’s, who was ordained with him twenty-five years o, Sister St. Athanaeue, Superior of the Convent, presided at the piano and directed the exercises, The list of medals and other p rizes will be found below: PRIZE LIST.
