Leather Journal, seems to know just:
why hides should remain as high as
they are. With conditions in the
leather trade across the line as slack
as they have been for some months,
it might be expected that the hide
market. should evidence the effect in
an easier tone, but quotations still
remain c0iisi.d_crnh1y higher than they
were at the beginning of the season,
and even at the figures asked leather
producers do not seem to be able to
get the selections they require. The
leather market consequently mani-
fests~n strength that is more or less
I-of n _serious problem to leather buy-
ers. Most lines of calf have advanced
a couple of cents during the month,
and all desirable tunnages of upper
stock show is corresponding enhance-
ment. With the increased demand
occasioned by sprint; manufacturing,
the situation has be:-onie more acute.
