The following despatch was sent all over Ontario last evening from Montreal : “Mr Laurier is seriously considering re- tirement from the leadership of the Liberal party. It is well known that Mr. Laurier has foralong time been dissatisfied with party prospects. He does not think he is receiving ‘the support he should from Ontario. Mr. Laurier is also a comparatively poor man, and he finds it hard to give his time to the party and to attend to the practice of his profession. The only reason why he has not given up the leadership long ago is that he wes afraid he might be accused of deserting his party in a crisis. It is very likely that, if the Liberal convention is called, Mr. Laurier will ask the party re- presentatives to choose a new leader. Mr. Laurier will shortly take up his residence in Montreal, where he will practice his pro- fession.” Halifax Happenings. The Prohibition Commission. Hairax, July 26. H. M. S.
