The hall was filled to capacity. the intake for the evening being 3138.00. Mr. John H. Myers of Hampton acted as chairman in his usual splendid manner. The program was well varied. The one-act. plays "Ada Gives First Aid" from Hampton, and "Mrs. Rushington's Rest. Cure" from Tryon were well presented, and received hilarious applause. The sloetch in rhyme from N. Tryon was in the choicest bit oi comedy seen in a long time. The May Pole Dance Irom Vic- toria under the direction 0! Mrs. Keith Boswell was beautifully pre- sented by thirteen girls in costume on an effectively decorated stage. the scene ending with a charming duet by Ruthie and David Boswell. The wedding scene by Crapaud was attractively staged with a dozen girls in evening dress. and the wedding party complete with Juanita l-landey as bride; Norman MacDonald as groom. and soloist; Margaret I-lowatt as bridesmaid; and George Nicholson as gooms- man: and Katheryn Myers as flower girl. other items on the program were Scottish Dance-Eleanor and Margo l-lart. Reading -- Margaret MacDonald. solo-Barbara Smith and George Cotton. solo--Deanna Bell. Duet-Sylvia Boultcr and Robert Wright. Solo-Gene Roger- son. Solo-Mrs. John McQuarrie. Deaconness at North Tryon. was guest speaker. Mrs. Brewer Llnkletter presided at the service and Mrs. Irving Jay was organist. The Scripture lesson in Paul's Epistle to the Romans. loth chapter, was read by Mrs. Robert Stavert. after which Mrs. Alexan- der I-Iiltz oflei-ed prayer. Mrs. L. M. Callbeok was guest soloist. her selections being "Thy Will Be Done" and "The Prayer Perfect." Mrs. John Walker gave a most interesting historical sketch of the Society from its beginning on Thursday alternoon, January Nth. 1891. w-hen the following officers were appointed: President, Miss Barbara MacLeod; vice-president, Mrs. William MacLeod; secretary, Miss Annie Sharpe: treasurer. Miss Jane Glover. There were twenty-two members present, and this membership was increased to thirty-two before the end of the year. One of the charter members was Miss Ida Stavert, now Mrs. Robert Bowncss. who still takes an active part. As ihis Society increased in membership a branch was formed in Kelvin on June 28. l934.and named the Myrtle Rhoad Woman's Mission-ary Society in honor of Mrs. William Rhoad, whcue husband was pastor at that time. The offering was received by Mrs. Charles Adams and Mrs. Harry I-Ieclobert and the hymns sung were "The Morning Light Is Breaking", "From Greenland's Icy Mountains". and "Jesus Shall Reign Whcreler the Sun." There were twenty members present. A splendid report of the year's activities was read by the secretary, Mr. E.. J. Arsensult. The guest speaker for the eve- ning was Mr. F. E. Doiron. School Supervisor. who delivered an ex- cellent addrcu. Mr. Doiron con- gratulated the district in general for the progress attained during the past year. He also com- mended the teacher for his excel- lent showing in the school pro- gram. Mr. Doiron also presided at the distribution of ten Standard First Aid Certificate: to adults who were silicessful in their final tests and 18 Junior Certif- icates to the boys and girls who had followed the Junior course in First Aid.
