Jpha ndersnl was appointed chair map nr explained the reasons for which the mee ing was called. Hs referred to, the agitation for years for better freight and passenger accommodation leading up to the adoption of plans and specliications for a new station and a new freight house _farwhich tenders were called. -A tender for the erection of a new station was ac- cepted and \vork begun, but for some un- accounted for reasons no tender for the building of a freight :house was accepted. Thé impression is that the old stution will be used, but this the people of Ken- sington resent because of its not being suitable. Tire greatest nced at present is the new freight house to ucconirnodatc the increasing buslness.' The following resolution was moved by Dt' Dar.ach and seconded by John S. Cousins. \Vher'eas the increased traffic of the Kensington Railway station both in pass' eager and freight business rendered thol old' building ami facilities so inadequate and unsuitable that the patrons of the road some two years ago began urgingthe ruanaizcurent, for necessary improvements such as new buildings and others of minor importance. Ami whereas those minor matters have been satisfactorily attended to andthe new station is now being erect- ed; but the new' freight shed, which of the improvements asked for is thc most urg- ently required, is not‘ proceeded with and the old inconvenient method of handling freight not only_still prevails but so far as we know is to continue so. And whereas the inwnvcnient delays nnrl unnecessary expense entailed on shippers and consignees at present is A most serious detriment to them as has been frequently pointed out to the rall- way officials and by them acknowled- ged, but nothing practical has yet been done to overcome a state of ailairs, which is to say the least intolerable, as the vol- ume of freight now probably twice or. more what it was a few years ago cannotf be properly handled with the present in-5 adequate accommodation. And whereas as a. result of tho Hon.: Mr. Ficldiurfs visit to the station in Dec. t 1003 in answer to a delegation who waited' ‘ on him when in Charlottetown just pre- _' viously, thc question was favorably con- sidered and the necessity of better ac- commodation acknowledged, and plans and Fpeciilcriions of a new station and ,station building given, but the building of the freight house is deferred. _ And whereas this delay is a serious dis- sppolntmentlto allper-sons interested,as it "means a further continuance of conditions that we hoped were about to end; but on the contrary, in view of the increasing _ volume of freight handled we foresee mat- ters becoming still worse. Therefore resolved that this meeting of patrons of the msd, Representatives, business men and others do most respect- fully but urgeptly request 'that the Dc- partment of Railways take such action in the matter that will have the proposed freight building erected and made ready for use with as little delay as possible, to the end tbut thepresent undesirable state of affairs cease and the wants of thc patrons of the Railway in this regard be supplied at an early date. Besides the movar and seeonder sev- eral speakers including James Kennedy, A. C. McLeod, D. McKenzie, spoke strong- ly in favor of the resolution. Hon. James W. Richards was present and favored the proposed improvements. He expressed the urgent need of a new freight -house and would bepleaaed tohelp tho matter alone all he could. The rcsolu-~ tion was carried unanimously. ' It was rnovpd by D. McKenzie, seconded by li. R. Mouse that a committee be ap- pointed to forward thc resolution to the Department. The following committee- _was appointed :I John Anderson, John Cousins, Dr. Darruch. Tire following resolution was moved by James Kennedy and seconded by A. C ' McLeod and carried unanimously. Further resolved that this meeting do hereby approve of the proposed; freight, shed as per pllns for which tenders were' called for, and in our opinion such a build~ ing would be well adapted to the require- ments of the place and would afford reasonably convenient freight facilities. The following resolution was moved by. Rev. D. J. Gillis, seconded by Edwin Proc- tor and carried unanimously. :Further resolved that we do express- our satisfaction of the prompt and busr~ ness-like manner our representations to the lion. W. S.
