' .or Canadian Industry and World Markets MQNIREAI: ' QUEBEC r TORONTO I VANCOUVER s WINDSOR ~ On Friday night, December 3, the King's County Board of Trade held its annual meeting at the Mon- tague Curling Rink, with the presi- dent, Mr. R. W. Beck, presiding. The meeting was attended by rep- resentatives of the different communities throughout Southern King's. The minutes of the last annual meeting and interim meet- ings were read by the secretary, C. A. Shaw. which were approved as read. Mr. Shaw also presented the financial report showing a balance of $23.05. Representations had been made to the Government with regard to the freight. rates question, but no reply had been received. The granting of the freight rate increase was opposed by practically every Prov- ince in Canada. Correspondence regarding the es- tablishment of industries in this locality was read, none of whichl proved to be very encouraging. Itl was hoped that the establishment’ of such industries would provide a flow of capital into this locality, and a considerable amount of em- ployment to the residents. Con- siderable discussion took place with regard to the proposed winter ferry service between Georgetown and Pictou. A letter was read from Hon. G. H. Barbour, Minister of Public Works, indicating that he would give every support to such a proposed service from Wood Islands to Plctou fol- lowing the normal service, after which the service would move to Georgetown when the freeze-up came on. A letter was also read from Dr. T. V. Grant, liiI.P.. indicating that ihc service would be impossible this year owing to lack of a landing dock at Georgetown; however, he hoped to place estimates in the. House covering the cost of this loitdiiig dock. Transport l\l.in|ster's Reply - this order to ascertain what they pro- pose on s winter service.
