During the proceedings to-day at the inquest in the Mitchellstown shoot- ing case, attention was drawn to the fact that the policemen charged with the shoot- ing had been removed from the district on the eve of the jury's verdict. The police inspector said that the men had been removed because their duties in the place had ceased, but they would return if necessary. | The coroner declared that the removal of the police was illegal, improper and in- consistent. After all the evidence had been submit- ted, Mr. Harrington, who appeared against the men charged with the shvoting, asked that a verdict of wilful murder be returned against head constable Brownrigg and five policemen who fired under his general or- ders. Mr. Harrington accused Constable Brownrigg of deliberately planning murder. The jury returned a verdict of murder against Inspector Brownrigg, Sergeants Kirwan, Ryder and Brennan.
