SUMMEIISIDE -Paramount's ”Chicago Dead- line." starring Alan Ladd and Donna Reed. which opened today at the Capitol Theatre. is an ex- citing blend of mystery and rom- ance with more than its quota of thrill-packed action. A staccato-paced story of a racket-busting newspaper reporter who has fighting blood as well as printer's ink in his veins. the film never falters as it moves to I breathtakingly suspensefuf climax. Ladd, as the two-listed ace re- porter, Ed Adams, who has a nose for news. an eye for pretty girls and a talent for trouble. gives an expert performance. The role is tailor-made for the popular star. and his dynamic personality regis- iers heavily every moment hels on the screen. As the glamorous, enigmatic Rosita Jean D'ur, lovely Donna Heed keeps pace with Ladd. Her brilliant portrayal of a woman who was loved and hated does much to sustain the dramatic in- tensity of "Chicago Deadline.” The suspenseful story. told through flashbacks. deals with the efforts of Chronicle reporter Adams to unravel the mystery shroudiing tihe events leading up to the death of a beautiful young woman. Presmre of all sorts, from oral persuasion to bullets, is ex- ercis to make him drop the in- vestigation, but he refuses to be intimidated. The result is a rous- ing climax that features one of t-he most exciting gun battles ever seen on the screen. ixium l . 4 R. E. ELLIS "" -..:-::;.;.:"--- I Barnum st.. 8 room: ui':m""' W.
