The large elevator which was near the front was removed and placed in the rear of the building in order to facilitate the loading of machinery direct through large doors to the carter. The elevator is sufficiently large to hoist any piece of machinery or a vehicle ready for the road. The general office has been enlarged and a hard wood floor has been placed. A private office has also been partitioned off. Some idea of the extent of the show rooms will be learned when the reader is informed that the building is three story with a floor space of 1251;-12 on each dat. _ The basement or cellar is frost proof and is walled with the best freestone. In the year 1860 Edward Egan of Cornwall, then a young man took it into his head to seek his fortune in foreign lands. At that time he owned a valuable farm at Cornwall, Lot 32. He did not wish to sell this farm but desired to have it should he ever return to his home. He came to Charlottetown to arrange for his departure and after securing a passage on a. vessel bound for the old Country, he went to the law oflice of Messrs. Haviland and Breckeu and executed a will by which he gave the farm and all his property to his sister Johanna, then a young girl residing in Cornwall.Th is will was witnessed by the late Hon.Thoma,s Heath Haviland and the present Mr. Justice Hodgson, who was a student at law at the time in Haviland 8: Brecken’s ofllce. Egan then sailed in a. ship called the Garelle for England and in' due time _arrived in Liverpool. From that port he sailed to Australia and finally located in New Zealand which is; now his home. Some years after Ega.n`s departure from this Island his sister f married a man named Pierce Costello an l some time in the year 1879. Costello believing Egan dead had his will proved before the late Judge Young and took out , probate of the will. He subsequently 1 mortgaged the farm. Some years ago he li died leaving the widow, who was Egar.’s f _ -. ._ - . - - ~~ . _ _ >_'f`?*'?:§i?"":""f>£_" -1:(-' . » V - _ _ _ _ _ _ _ ._,,., . » A--s -._».~ .» _,.\»»»¢_r, ._ ':. 1_1<.=sA\~.-;3v_".’1-'='<' ie -» » 'WI .,- -_e’2K‘7_.1'%"f§-"ff QF.
