The revised figures of the last Dominion election shows a total gov ernment vote of 660,557, as' com pared with the total Liberal vote or 625.095. -In addit- ion thcre was a. labor vote of 1,742; a Socialist vote of 3,912, and an Independent vote of 7,177. The Ontario vote was, of course, the deciding element. 'l‘he Conservativr majority in the province was 62,- 852; _the maritime provinces gave 'a popular Liberal majority of 2,925, Quebec gave a Liberal majority of 5,012; the three prairie provinces s Liberal majority of 20,182; British Columbia a Conservative majority oi 9,272. Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec, Saskatchewan and Alberta went Liberal, while P. E. Island, On tario, Manitoba and British Colum- bia went Conservative. Figures for all the urban centres are not yet available, but the largest Conserve, tive majoritieswere piled up in the cities. Thus in Ontario the _cities of Hamilton, Kingston, London, 0t- tawa, Toronto, (including South York, which is practically a part of Tm-0ni;0),_ and Brantford account for 34,703 of thc total Conservative ma- jority oi 62,852 throughout the pro- vince. Rurai Ontario still remains faithful to the Liberal cause. Taking the figures lor cities in the other pro- vinces so far available it _ls found that the government majorities total over 50,000, and this total will PTO' bably run up to 0ver_ 75,000 on fur- ther anaiysis of the figures f_or the smaller cities, not included in the returns by ridings. Information has just been received of the death of James Beales who passed away in an American sanitar- ium, where. on account of ill health, he has been for some time. For ma-ny years Mr. Beales was a prominent citizen of Charlottetown and carried on business as a merchant tailor, on tha corner of Great George and Graf- ton Streets, which is still known as Beales’ Corner. Mr. Benles was in the fullest sense of the term a self- made man. Early in life he came to Charlottetown from his country home in Kingston, and by good habits and careful attention to his work he soon found a. place among the lending business men of the community. In recent years, owing to ill health, he has lived in retirement. He was about 17 years of age. In 1864 Mr. Beales married Mary Jane, eldest daughter of the late William Smith of this city, who survives him. He also leaves one son, Frank Beales of Kent Street. The remains will be brought home for interment. To the bereaved cere sympathy. Stop That Coughing Now that nearly everybody ‘ is coughing-it is well tn know thc plain truth about coughs and colds.
