Snt,——A short time, ago we heard a good deal about the high standard of the Summerside schools, especially the higher gt-atlas, the efliciency of the Teachers, and the superior judgment Bf the trustees who are largely instrumental in lringing the schools to such a high state, claiming that they were second to none on the Island and better than the Charlottetow schools. A ' , Now, I would like to know how much truth there is in this as-ertion. We find according to the published list. of those who passed the entrance examination to the Normal School and P. W. College, that the number from Sumtnerside is small indeed. I-a Summerside there are eleven teachers and they have succeeded in penning out two; for the one taking a Scholarship though credited to Sumnfer- sile, only attended there a short time and belongs to a country school; one is a son of the late Inspector of Schools for Prince County, and no doubt recived valuable help from his father, the other got a great deal of care after school hours the meeting of our association, for re- distribution. The superintendent and inspectors could form a library committee. hope the asseciatioii will fall upon some plan to arrange for the successful distribu- salary they receive. Perhaps I need not have said it for it is universally admitted. proportion of the revenue for the-purpose of education than it should. What is to be donois the question on all hands, and as yet nothing has beendone or attemp- ted. I have pointed out that by requir- ing teachers to reach a higher profs!-; sional standing the profession I itself attain a higher level. Fewer’ win engage in it, and those who do ‘will be able to. command, and will he wortbyof» higher remuneration. This presents only one side of the case. It is useless to place on the mg-ket a superior article at a high price, beside atrinferior one at a low price so long as to theinest ditliculty.
