Colonel Isaac Avery Wheeler, who died in Atlanta recently, was for a ldng time editor in chief of the Atlanta Con- stitution. Although a devout Methodist and of a peaceful disposition, he had fought four duels with mer who bad cast aspersions on his motives. The family of Bismarck shows no signs of dying out. Sir Charles Seely, who recently offer- ed £1,000 conditionally toward the re- building of the chancel of Carisbroke church as part of the isle of Wight memorial to the late Prince Henry of Battenberg, has now decided that the scheme had better be abandoned, owing to the opposition of the newspapers. The congressional library will soon receive as a gift from Mrs. Mary Long- fellow Milmore a much admired marble bust of Wendell Phillips. Mrs. Mil- more, who lives in Washington, is the widow of Joseph A. Milmore, the sculp- tor, and the bust is one modeled by Mar- tin Milmore and chiseled by Joseph Milmore. William Hathaway Forbes, who has just died at the age of 57 years, was for a long time closely identified with the business and financial interests of Bos- ton. He served gallantly through the war and for eight years was president of the Bell Telephone company.
