Prince Iitlward Island enjoys the unique distinc-
tion of being the scene of the first “Confederation
cotifereitcc," 'vhile at the same time being the last of
the old British colonies to enter Confederation. It
was so years ago last year that the Charlottetown con-
fereiice was held, out of which Confederation event-
uallv came. ' Charlottetown made elaborate prepara-
tions for the celebration of the eventful Jubilee last
Septenibcr, but the war caused its abandonment. The
(.`liarlotteto\vn Guartliaii, however, has issued a .sou-
venir edition directing attention to the life and
resources of the Island Province, to coninieniorate the
anniversary. The souvenir is printed in_ magazine
forni, on coated paper and is profusely illustrated.
There are timely articles on the Silver Foie Industry,
the tislieries, agriculture. etc. The managing editor,
Mr. l. lt. Burnett, in an interesting foreword, draws
an itfvitiiig picture of the liappy tloiiiesticity of life on

of the population," he tells us, "is engaged in agricul-
ture and nearly every farmer owns his own farm.
