That, in a few words des- cribes “P00dles" Hanneford, a star of tho noted Hanneford Family of bore-back riders, coming to Char- lottetown Monday, July 30, with the Great Al G. Barnes Circus. The press, throughout this and other Lands, have repeatedly ac- claimed Poodles and his family the greatest act in the land of sawdust and spangles. The troupe, consisting of three women and three men, which, of course, includes “Poodlesf are expert equestrians from the old school of riders, yet their act is of the most modern type of bare-back perform- ance. Elaborate costumes, said to have cost a small fortune, is a very noticeable feature, especially the now fa.rnous Aigrettes worn by Mrs. Eliz- abeth Hanncford, the mother, as they have become an ' known emblem of the family. Other equestrian numbers with the great show this season are numerous, but they are only a small part of the fast moving i934 program. Irrnurn- erable features of magnitude, beauty and thrills, headed by Miss Mabel Stark, world's celebrated wild animal trainer, who appears in person, in the most thrilling wild animal dis- play of all time is but one of over 200 acts and displays presented by the 400 stars with this famous cir- cus. The performances will be at 2 and 8 p. in. Doors open at 1 and 7 p, m. Urges League Fight Prices (By The Canadian Press) CAPE TOWN, South Africa, July ¢0-—Strong language about the cost of living in South Africa was used by Professor W. H. Hutt in an ad- dress to the National Council of Women. He described the price of bread. butter, milk and other ne- cessities in the Union as "one of the biggest scandals of the present age," and accused Ministers of r “betraying the consumers‘ cause.” What was wanted, the Professor urged, was a live consumers‘ league which would strictly avoid any form of alliance with any political party. He said he did not propose to discuss the facts or the signifi- ,cance of the many discrepancies between international prices and ‘prices within the Union. Haas- sumed that his listeners were all convinced that there was a strong prlma facie case against a situation iwhich resulted in the prices of ‘necessaries wiihin the Union being so much higher than world prices.
