The second game nf the series what will decide the four-province champion will be played in Moncton next Thursday. The Saints earned a berth in the Maritime finals by eliminat- lug St. Joseph's University Juniors lii7-85 in a two game total point series. hloncton defeated St. John Y.lti.C.A. by e l63-85 total soon in the other semi-final round. Scotia intercollegiate league. St. Francis Xavier. Here follows a brief sketch of, this S.D.U. learn that is at pre-p sent keeping the red and white colors very much in the running for two Maritime basketball cham- pionships. 1 JOIIN (IIONDO) KELLY - d'.1"-3 centre star from Bear River. P.E. l . Kelly for the past three sea- sons has been the sparkplug of the Saints and again this year is the team's high scorer. He does; everything well but specialises ml the drive-in ley-up shot. i ALFRED (CHICK) MOILIIISIONE 3' ll"- right forward from Plea-I N EW ZI inch QeZw,w on the basis of past performan- ces this season the Saints will probably be slight favorites to capture the Maritime crown. Be- sides their two overwhelming vie- torics over St. Josepbis they boast II 76-50 win over the Moncton team they are now meeting for the title llowever, liioncton's convincing triumph over St. John and the fact that their two tallest men did not play in the exhibition can- test against S.D.U. rate them as a threat to upset the Saints' till hnpes. ' RATED STRONGER Last year the S.D.U. junior loam advanced to the Maritimae finals but lost out in a two game series to Woodstock juniors. This year's edition of the red and white hoopsters are rated at least 25 per cent stronger both defensive- ly and offensively over last year's team. it the Saints do get by Mone- ton and win the Maritime cham- pionship it will mark two firsts in Charlottetown basketball hia- inry. it will he the first time Q Citariottctown team has won the junior championship and it will be the first time that the Easter Canadian junior finals were ever played in Charlottetown. The win- ner of the Moncton S.D.U. final is slated to meet the Quebec On- tario champion in the Canadian y semi-finals on the home court of the Maritime winner in a best two out of three series March ll. 19. and 20. MOUNT A SATURDAY On Saturday of this week this same S.D.U. junior squad will be out to strengthen its hold on first place in the N.B.-P.E.I. in- tucollegiate league when the Saints take on Mount Allison on the S.D.U. floor Saturday night. St. Dunstan's has already beaten the Mounties this year In regular play and a win Saturday night will give them at least a tie for the two-province intercollegiate ti- tle. Basketball fans may not be aware of the fact the S.D.U. ju- nior tenm and the intercollegi- ntc quintet are one and the some. in other words. all members of St. 1)unstan'l varsity this year are of junior age. This fact alone st-'Imt!s the Junior squad as a team to be reckoned with In any competition. if only because of the experience it has gained from sant Grove. P.E.l. Perhaps the ablest bail-handler on the team, "Chick." while not a high scorer, reaps more assists than anyone on the team. IILIAN NO0NAN- 0' 1'6" - Ieit forward from Regine. Bask.
