Today that; trend has been reversed and there are many reasons to look to the future with courage. Our agriculture and fisheries are our two major sources of income. In fact, these are our major resources. While both of hhese produce good Income for the province, we have recently become aware that they can is here Sea-q International , provide us WI‘IJI'I n great; deal more. The answer to gaining greater revenue from farming and fishing lies in manufacturing or processing. The farmers and the fishermen get: their money for the products which they supply to the plants. And Is- land people get jobs at the plants which means even more income for the province. In addition to this. wherever new plants are going into operation. there are other benefits. For every plant a. certain number of skilled and managerial people are needed. Wherever possible we are offering train- ing to Islanders so that. these jobs will be open to them. We shall continue to look for industry in hhe belief that when we do we are helping the farmer. the fisherman. the Island family. the busi- nessman and the store keeper. Industry is the open end of our economy where new growth can take place. Leo F.
