     plant of Amalgamated Dairies 
     
     Limited in Summerside marks the 
     
     culmination of two years of en- 
     
     deavor. Six independent companies 
     
     have joined together in establish- 
     
     ing this centralized business and 
     
     many details required working out 
     
     during the process or the amal- 
     
     gsmation. 
     
    

    
     The Dunk River Dairying Com- 
     
     pany. Kenslngton Dairying Co- 
     
     operative Auooiation and the Try- 
     
     on Dairying Company were manu- 
     
     iacturers or butter while Abrams 
     
     Village Dairying Co-operative As- 
     
     sociation, Grand River Dairying 
     
     Co-operstve Association and the 
     
     Tyne Valley Dairying Company 
     
     had always made cheddar cheese. 
     
     The new'bu.siness is engaged in the 
     
     production of both these products. 
     
     In the early spring of 1952 the 
     
     P. E. I. Federation or Agriculture 
     
     invited Mr. D. B. G-oodwillie, chief 
     
     lo! the inspection and marketing 
     
    
   
   
    
        
     
    
   
   
    
     Department 
     
     of Agriculture to come to Prince 
     
     Edward Island and review the 
     
     situation in the dairy industry 
     
     here. 
     
    

    
     Mr. Goodwillle had seen the 
     
     beneficial results or centralization 
     
     in other provinces and pointed 
     
     out the difficulties facing smaller 
     
     plants in keeping abreast of im- 
     
     provements in methods of produc- 
     
     tion which are constantly taking 
     
     place. He recognized this province 
     
     as having great capablitiea and 
     
     was of the opinion that larger and 
     
     diversified manufacturing plants 
     
     would create an impetus for fuller 
     
     developmuit. - 
     
    

    
     Representatives of several com- 
     
     panies got together and discussed 
     
     the possibilities of merging the 
     
     businesses and others were later 
     
     invited to join in the discussions. 
     
    

    
     From this, as a beginning, the 
     
     project developed -until there is 
     
    
   
   
    
       
     
    
   
   
    
     now erected. and in operation, the

     While great progress has been

     for organizing this amalgamation

     The plant is designed to be capable 
     
     of flexibility and advantages to 
     
     be gained irom improved pmduc- 
     
     tion and merchandising methods

     Olympia Ice Cream company 
     
     has become associated with Amal- 
     
     gamated Dairiesnimited and is 
     
     now inemuiiaottirlng its well known 
     
     product in the new factory. '
