The Anglican Synod of Toronta diocese fo-night adopted the report of the com- mittee on the union of the Church in British America. The report recommends that power be given to the dioeeses within the civil provinces of the Dominion to form themselves in provincial synods’ or vouncils, “the bishops of the pro- vince to constitute the Upper House to be presided over by an Archbishop elected by the bishops of the various dioceses cun- cerned. The report further recommends the formation of a Dominion Synod to meet every five years, and to be presided over by the primate and metropolitan elect- ed by Archbishops, The legislation of the Provincial Couneil ‘as set forth im the report is confined to matters affecting the provincial affairs of the church, The Dominion, Synod, in additien to being con- cerned with the standards and discipline of the church, will act as a court of appeal in cases affecting the general interests of the church. R, Dickey, barrister, was selected to- day by the Liberal-Conservative convention as the party standard-bearer in Cumber- land. The Liberals of the County do not . want to fight, but the Halifax Grits are bringing pressure to bear on the local men to put up aman. The third party are bent on hav- ing a candidate in the field, but want to get rid of Bulmer. Forest Fires. —_—_ Moncton, June 7. Forest fires caused great damage in this vicinity. They have been raging all along the northern division of the I. C. Railway, causing some delay to the trains. Stewart Trites house, two barns’and outbuildings at Lutes Mountains, six miles from here, were burned with all their contents, including three horses, and threshing, mowing and cultivating machines. The fire spread so rapidly that the family had to escape through the window. The loss is heavy. No insurance. The Longley Case. Norwicnu, Ont., June 7. Nearly the whole of to-day’s session of the Niagara Methodist Conference was occupied with the case of Rev. Mr. Long- ley. After a long discussion, a motion for hisexpulsion from the ministry was tol- lowed by an amendment that he be repri- manded and his resignation accepted.
