THE death of Miss Margaret Keetfe, of Briarwood, Alberton, is reported. It oc- curred on Tuesday at 8 o’clock, p. m_ amidst her sorrowing friends. Until re- cently when some sort of comsumption of the blood attacked her, Miss Keeife was in the best of health and, as always in her long life, devoting herself to the service of those about her. She was the daughter of the late John Keefe, one ot the pioneer fathers of the west; and, on account of the prominence of the family and her own con- spicuous virtues, her circle of friends was most extended and embraced all classes and creeds. In her last illness she had all the tender care ofa loving brother, who will miss her more than anyone else. The funeral took place to Sacred Heart Church Wednesday and was largely attended. Reverend Father Burke ofliciated and Rev. Fr. Murphy was present in tha sanctuary. Mr. John A. McKenna, secretary of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, died suddenly at his room in the Lebrecht block Thursday afternoon at 4.50 from the bursting of a blood vessel. Mr. Mc- Kenna had been complaining for two or three weeks, but his friends as well as himself did not consider his ailment anything serious. And he was up and walking around only a few moments before he was stricken. A negro nurse was the only one present, and he immed- iately called Conductor Eckard from an adjoining room, and a doctor was summoned, but when he arrived life auspices ofthe order of Hibernians was held on Saturday. Mr. John A. Mt-Kenna. was born in Char- lottetown, Prince Edward Island, and was about llfty years of age. He was educated, we are informed, in Montreal, Canada. He had travelled a great deal, was a close observer, a studlous reader, and possessed a very retentlve memory. There was scarcely any Subject which he could not converse upon enter- tainingly and it was a. pleasure to listen to his discripton of places and scenes he had visited. He was a perfect gentleman, rather retiring in disposition, and only his more intimate friends knew his history or were aware of his in- was extinct. The funeral under the. To the Edltorof The Halihx Herald: ,cm hoo ____ 1 Sir,-Your paper is full I of news, I enjoy reading it in the quiet of Hub-' ley's Cove. Still more wonderful to relate, it was all glventothe poor of New York city. Strange 'no one ever heard of this gift before. Wm. Tweed might have done it in his days. Now it strikes me I heard of this Rev. McLean a tow days ago in Brooklyn. He there and then declared that he raised a dead man to life in Mr. Spurgeon‘s Tabernacle, London. This was printed in the New York Tribune- I at once wrote to the editor, telling him that I was constant correspondence with that they are well. They left Ship Mnspurgeon’ Mm had .een mm le” than six months before. He never men- in France' July mst after 8' pleasant' WEB' tioned such an event to me, although he told me all about the work of God in the Tabernacle. I then challenged Dr. Mc- Lean, alias “Schlatter,” to produce some proof to confirm his big story. None ever camo. The simple reason was, be- cause no such event ever took place. It was a. huge untruth told by one who had not yet even learned the art of lying. To be an eiiicient, artistic liar one must use economy. When too many are put in circulation they lose all value. In this “Scl.-atter" goes beyond Baron Mun- ciiaser, and is excelled only by Rev Charles McLean, M. D. W. D. Mcxnmnv. Ansonia, Conn., U. S. 1-1-*__-I Double Use for Telegraph Wires. The reported discovery that it is quite feasibleto send telegruphic and tele- phonic messages simultaneously over the same wire should have an important bearing on the cost of long distance telephoning. If it is possible to"use ex- isting telegraph wires for telephone pur- poses without interfering with their regu`ar use, the cost of sending a long distance telephone message should certainly be greatly reduced, while at the same time it should be comparatively easy to bring all parts of the country into telephonic communication. It also seems that the double use of wires should largely cut down the tangle of wires which now disfigure and even make dangerous many s».reets, particularly in smaller cities. Many other ways in which the new discovery may be utilized also suggest themselves. Thus with only the expense of installing the necessary instruments the odlcinls of every railroad company may keep themselves in speaking communi- cation with every station agent along its line. It will also be possible to establish phones in section houses and at other points along the line with which it may be desirable to communicate at times, and where it is not nezesaary to keep' a telegraph operator on duty. _____,___ A MUNICIPAL TREASURER Makes a Strong statement fin Favor of Dodrl’s Kidney Pills.
