Suicide of a Halifax Druggise. Sad Havrrax, April 21, Mrs. James Shannon, New York, who lets out furnished rooms, while cleaning up house yesterday morning, saw a light burning in the basement room, which she rented to ayoung man who refused to give his name. She knocked at the door, but getting no answer, forced her way in and found the man lying on the floor. She went up to him, and touching him discov- ered he was dead. A bullet hole was in his head back of the right ear. The woman ran out and called a policeman. A 33 calibre revolver was lying by the dead man’s side. One chamber was discharged. A letter dated ‘‘Halifax” was found on him. The suicide is Joseph Archibald, a young druggist of this city who conducted a business at the nerth end. He went to the States on a visit about three weeks ago, The cause of the suicide is supposed to be despondency on account of illness. Schooner Missing. Diesy, April 21. The schooner Mabel, Captain Dakin, sailed from Centreville, Digby, early on Tuesday morning, bound for St. John, and must have encountered Tuesday’s gaii. A NEWLY WEDDED FARMER KILES TWO OF HIS ANNOYERS, According toa despatch from Topeka, the frontier idea of celebrating a wedding by the beating of tin pans and firing of guns was responsible for three deaths one night last week atacharivari near Ness City, Kan. A young farmer by the name of Anderson was married, and brought his bride to the little cottage he had provided for her. A number of hoodlumsin the community thought it would be proper te give them a reception, About fifty gathered around the place at midnight and commenced making deafeyi- ing noises, double barreled shotgun which was loaded with buckshet. He was drunk, and instead of shooting in the air, fired both loads at the frame cottage. Anderson and his wife narrowly escaped being killed. Anderson grabbed his shotgun, opened the door and fired both barrels into the crowd, killing two of his neighbors and seriousiy woundinga third. The dead men were taken to their homes, and the third, who will die, is being cared for by Ande’r- , a0n, a A i — The twine mill of Benjamin Morn at Washington Village, sixteen miles from Providenc, R.1., was demolished by a boiler explosion on the 18th. Emory Clarke, 45, and Samuel Perry, 40, were killed outright. Two others were badly injured. Loss $20,000. Hyacinthe Lanthier, one of the very few survivors of the Canadian rebellion of 1837, | died recently at Smiths Falls, Ontario.
