Hawirax, June 6. Rev. Father Guilla, who arrived from St. John’s, N. F., this morning, said that the fishermen at Sandy Point, St. George’s Bay, are very much excited over the way in which they have been treated by the French. A day before the steamer Caspian sailed, the schooner Rover, Capt. Graham, while fishing off St. George’s Bay, wag hailed by a boat from a French man-of-war and ordered to take in her nets. The cap- sin of the Rover refused, and the French ieliberately pulled the fishing gear from the water. Rev. Father Howley interviewed the commander of the French vessel and got aim to refrain from further action uwatil the arrivai of the St. John’s delegates, who sre now on the other side trying to effect a settlement of the question. A number of fishermen had a meeting at St. George’s mm Friday night at which resolutions were pasged to the effect that if the French came inside the shore limits and floated their nets they would be fired on.
