By Yvonne MacKean Well, I am impressed, three for three. ay, there are only a couple of updates. week I decided to add a bit of a entary on a residence issue. First, updates: Blanchard Hall had a e party last weekend. Although the ing is still standing, no doubt a few of sidents are not. As usual, the gang ably had a blast. Next, students have hired in Bernardine and Marian to h during the weekends. Finally, res pnts can expect the next edition of the dence Times within the next two weeks. Second, a commentary. Although, the I am discussing is not new, it has aced as a result of the new parking What in essence I am suggesting is ing spaces, say 15, specifically desig- for residence students (especially ardine and Marian). Perhaps a different permit could be used to denote these I realize that parking is at a premium, cially with the construction on campus. 0 know professors have to pay for ed spaces. I still think residence ents constitute some consideration. I heard the argument that because we t drive to school, we don’t need parking es. I use my car to go home, shop and ut (saves me cab fair). There is also the ment made that Blanchard has parking. € is a parking lot near Blanchard, but T than a few spots reserved for Family g Residents, the lot is not specifically gnated for residents, it is just convenient Blanchard students to park in. The other ences don’t really have good spaces. ted, there are a handful of spaces by the ing Hall. However, only five are . lable to be used (not necessarily by dence students only), the others are The Res Rap Panther Prints reserved (i.e. for Biology vans and handi- cap). I don’t think these spaces are enough, even if they were specifically allocated for residence use only. The main argument I have to justify residence parking is the fact that for eight months of the year UPEI is my home. In apartment complexes and houses, one has a drive way to park a car. Other than property taxes (which has to be paid on all land), people do not have to pay to park in their driveway. I don’t think it is completely unreasonable to ask for a drive way. Per- sonally, I (as would other residence stu- dents) would not mind paying the parking fee in exchange for some designated spaces. The spaces, say 15, would be on a first come first serve basis for residence students. It would also be preferable that the spaces were in proximity to the residences. Imag- ine the distance from the lower Blanchard parking lot to Bernardine as the walk from your drive way to your house. Another issue that I would like to address, is parking for residence guests. I decided at the urging of friends to talk to security. Cst. Weale told me that on weekends parking permits are not monitored as closely for precisely this reason. There- fore, visitors are not required to have permits, and don’t receive fines unless they are parked illegally. It is comforting to know that my parents, should they come to visit, would not be towed from my drive way. I want to know what you think. If you agree are disagree, why? I want to hear other views, maybe mine is way out to lunch. So write a letter to the editor at the paper and tell me what you think about residence parking. Thanks for reading. ..this is the res rapper signing off. ampus Comment: “Do You Prefer Sex Or Chocolate?" 1. Aimee Pineau, Ist year education: "Sex." 2.
