4 By JACK McANDREW Well, the weatherman co-op-jof the entries, and’ to they show a erated to the fullest, judge by. some of the pictures of' in ‘ism about this the |servation. that have been appearing these newspapers all week, fishermen took full advantage of | the fine days and landed some’ mighty fine catches. I took._a turn through several country. areas last weekend, and {t was difficult to finda pond or stream that didn’t have at-least one person wetting a -line. The causeways at Vernon Riv- er and North River were popul- ar spots as usual, and Scales Pond was under «heavy pressure re about 20 cars parked along the road. The same could be said for all the best known spots I expect. At_one dirt road bridge I passed the young fry were out in force and were having pretty good luck with alder and. cane poles and a bit of line. There they were, hanging over the bridge railing, casting furiously into’ the stream below, ferocious- ly intent on yanking pan size fish from the brook. It looked for all the world like a scene from 50 years ago. - - ee And.while the fish get what for over the next few weeks we have some visitors with us who have their troubles in the fall of the year. GEESE ARE BACK The geese are in, and in huge numbers. I spotted a good sized flock near Victoria, and. there . have been other reports of heavy flights trickling in over the past week or 80. But I saw for myself what geese in numbers really looked like near Mermaid last Sunday. It was a magnificent and an unforgettable sight: There they were, spread out over an area a half mile long and pretty near as much wide..We got tired counting after a couple of thou- sand and never did get to the end of them, but one thing for sure, I've never seen. so many |: ‘geese in one place at one time. ~ We-approached to within 100 arest. of them, ~and they simply scooted about | bo yards further out and settled back to bobbing..on the bay again. You’d swear they knew it wasn’t hunting season, by the rasual_.way.they weit about moving, and I. guess they prob- ably can: tell in that instinctive way wild things have about such matters. ; It was, as I say, an unforget- | table sight, and I only hope as many like same route as well when it’s time to go south next fall. , , ENTRIES CLOSED Entries have closed in the fish and Game Association Es- vsay and Poster contest and the results should be announced $0-0-4-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-O-0-0-0-0-0-9-D Ready Pasted SUNWORTHY @ 800 patterns im stock shortly. They could fall from the nest and some ani- mal might get them but you could help by putting them back in the nest. You could feed. them and not destroy their nests.
