l The protest of the President of the
Temperance Alliance against the appoint-
ment of vendors in Summerside, was
crowded out of yesten;iay’s issue and
appears this morning. We are led to
think that in making the appointments
iufquesticn the Executive were not aware
of all the facts now disclosed. It is not
yet too late to retrace the steps taken,
and in view of the disposition shown by
Premier' Peters and his colleagues to give
iull effect, to the Prohibitory Law we
hope and trust that this may be done.
President Roosevelt with thanks to
Canada and the other countries which
offered money for the relief of the San
Francisco sufferers, has explained why the
Vnited States Government could not
accept such offerings, but that this need
not prevent the money being sent direct
to the San Francisco relief committee.
The Canadian Parliament has acted on
this suggestion and has unanimously
voted $100,000 to he fowsrded in this way.
San Francisco will thus get the nid which
" Canada was so prompt to offer.
Today is polling day in Klng's County
for the repeal of the Scott Act. Good
meetings have been held in the principal
centres and have been addressed by
clergyman and others of all denomin-
ations, fully explaining the situation and

prevails and a general desire to bring the
Prohibitory Law into force. We trust
the electors who favor prohibition will
rally to the polls and deposit their ballots
against the Scott Act. \Ve hope tomor-

Many will join in the hope that Walter
Wellman, the Chicago newspaper man,
may succeed in his hazardous enterprise
of reaching the north pole in an airship.
Late in June or early in July he will
make the final start from Spitzbergcn
‘for his northward iiight of over500 miles.
The adventurers undoubtedly face great
perils. They may never he heard from
after they set ont, but they will have n
splendid equipment and success is at least
possible. It is hoped to communicate
between the airship and Spitzbergen by
wireless telegraphy during the voyage if
ull goes well, so the world may possibly
have n telegraph message from the pole
itself before the summer is over.
