Murray of Kensing ton United Church in the O'Leary United Church in the fall, to which meetings all the Protestant ongan-ists and choirs of Western Prince were invited, there has been renewed interest in the im- portance of the organist and choir: in our services which have cul- minated in two very successtl "Hymn Festivals" held in Western Prince County. The first one was held on Dec. 17 in the O'Leary United Church and the large sacred edif-ic was taxed in the uttermost to accom- modate the large congregations. Four choirs participated at his Hymn Festival. each singing two special hymns: Knutsford Baptist. St. Duke's Anglican at O'Leary Corner and 0'Lealry United and Bloomfield United. 'llhe organists -were: Mrs. Melvin Ellis, Mrs. Bann Webb, Mrs. J. M. Mac- Williams and Mrs. A. W. Craswell. The second hymn festival was held on Sunday. Jan. 14 in the Presbyterian Church in Tyne Val- ley, which was filled to over- flowing. Seven choirs participat- ed: Con-way. Bidedord. Port, Hill. Wellington, Lot: 14, Tyne Vailley Presbyterian. Tyne Valley United. Ministers present were: Rev. L. A. Dlgnan, Rev. J. W. Howe. Rev. R. H. Baxter. Rev. Dr. Prince. The organ-ists of the different choirs are as follows: Mrs. Erland Ram- say. Conway; Mrs. R. H. Baxter, .Bida4ord; Mrs. Percy Birch, Port J-lill: Mrs. Howard Barlow. Wel- -lington; Miss Ina Phillips. Lot 14; .Mrs. Eldon Miliar. Presbyterian Church and Mrs. Ivan Linkletter, United Church of Tyne Valley. In both O'Leary and Tyne Vai- ley Hymn Festivals it is.planned to hold another one in the spring. The Rev. L. M. Murray in his school said concerning the Rural Ohurch Organist: "You are prob- ably one of the most devoted peo- .ple in the congregation. You are always in your place ahead of time and without fanfare or bustle you carry on your glorious task of lea 1- ing the praise of God. Every year at the congregational meeting you are given a vote of .thank.s and that is perhaps all the expression of appreciation you hear. You seem to be the most neglected worker in the church. but many people say thank you' in their hearts and are inspired by your devo- tion". An organist needs to be a person of deep religious experi- ence and with a. sense of reverence and discrimination. She will be a church membe professing her xfailh and living it. The speaker stated that a good motto for the rural church organist is. "Some- thing new every week, a hymn, an anthem, a voluntary" and be con- Gilded by saying, "church organ- ists as we know them in rural ohunohes are the salt of the earth. Their loyalty. enM1-usiasrn and daithfulness are an inspiration. God bless them."-O , MAIIAGEII and SEIPY. - TREASURER Photo By Heckbert '1'. L. LlNl(l.ET'I'ER. " Summes-side Photo By Ed Gamhum.
