France, November 7th, 1915 Dear father:-I now take the pleas- ure of writing you a few lines to let you know that I am well, hoping to ilnd you the same. Today is Sunday and not having much to do I thought I might as well write. At present I am acting cook for fourteen men and am not in the trenches this time. We are about a mile back and we have a good time. I made a bread pudding the other day and the boys more than ate it, they thought it was great and I suppose if they were home they would not look at lt. if you get a man hungry enough he will eat almost any- thing so all I have to do is keep them just a little hungry. Well we are not too bad off here. The weather just now lg nice and flue but we have had quite a lot of wet weather, a, while ago and the trenches are not just what you would call clean. but then the Ger- mans are no better. They asked our fellows one day if we had water enough; that was after the rain. Wel could see them hailing theirs out standing up in full view of us but we did not fire for a good while. Lots of our fellows, when it is foggy, go ml; between the trenches looking for sou- venirs to take home Well father 1 would like to be home for Christmas but don’t expect it for" a while yet. I hope to come soma time after we give the Germans a Sood licking and I don’t think it will be Very long for they need not » think that old John Bull is doing his beg; yet. He can do better and they will find it out before we get through. I wrote to mother two or three days ago and I had one from her the day I wrote, she likes Cobalt pretty well she says and Earl says he is going to school out there. He likes it fine. I get quite a lot of mail from Canada but could read a little more. Tell ` Hector to drop me a line when he can for it does a fellow a whole lot of good to hear from home over here. You should jjust see the fellows when the Canadian mail comes. There is an awful rush for it and the fellow that dont get any feels blue. but then a per-I son can get used to almost anything `l here, only the big shells. You would | -_ i wr.
