Fancy Sate-—The sale of Fancy Goods in the Lecture Room of the Methodist Church last night, was successful. All the articles exposed for sale were disposed of, and about $120 realized. ‘he sale wasa closimg-out one of articles left on hand from the Bazaar of last summer. Mrs. Lathern, Mrs. Poole, Miss Alley, and others deserve cre lit for the busiucss-like manner in which taey conducted the sale. The supper at night was one of the best we have seen prepared. ‘The edibles were of the most substantial kind, and the ladies displayed great tasve in the arrangement and manage- Ment of the repast. Murs. B. Rogers, Miss Heard, and the ladies that assisted them, fairly earned the thanks, as well as the money, of those who sat down to the very excellent supper of last night. The pro- ceecs of the supper are to be appropriated to the Organ fund, which has lately been Opened in connection with the Brick Church. MP 2S? a Winter Communication. To the Editor of the Daily Examinr: Sir,—L was very glad yesterday to read your well-deserved strictures on the mis- management of our railway ; though I think you rather injured your case by dwelling par- ticularly upon the inconveniences of the winter arrangement. The excuse wil! be made that there are, or may be, so many obstacles to be overcome in the winter that it is well to be on the safe side. But the fact is that the sum- mer time table was itself disgraceful; and that it was endured without complaint, can only be attributed to the fact that the people generally are unaccustomed to railway travel- ling and can be imposed upon wirh impunity. The steamboat train took three hours to go fifty miles, travelling very little faster than ‘the freight train. To gofrom Charlottetown to Souris took five hours. A person living in Souris, who had business in Charlottetown, must spend ten hours of the day on the road, and could have only three hours and a half in town—imost of which time was in the middle of the day, when it was almost impossible to do any business. And yet with this miserable accommodation the rates are quite as high as upon a well-managed road. The immediate fault of this, rests either with the General or the Local Superintendent. It may be that Mr. McKechnie simply obeys the order of his superior, in which case no blame rests upon him. It may bé that he fails to act with the energy he should, and prefers to go on in a dead and alive, sleepy sort of a way. after all, if the people are asleep, officials are fn that case much blame rests upon him.
