We serve the campus and the Charlottetown area as the only source for university news, sports, andcurrent affairs, as wellas enter- tainment features and articles de- voted to everything under the sun (and a few things not under it). That’s not all we provide, though. The X-Press also gives stu- dents the opportunity to get involved with the paper. The X-Press is written, edited, and produced by students, and we're always seeking new volunteers to do the countless fun and fascinating jobs that go into throwing together a university paper. e Openings What jobs are those, you may ask? Well, we always needa few creative souls to do things like write stories, take pictures, draw cartoons, write creative pieces (like poetry), or just help out around the office. No special experience is necessary (though it can’t hurt) and if need be we're here to explain all the enchanting secrets of writing and putting together a newspaper. There are even specific posts open to volun- ress by Sean McQuaid Experience Your complete guide to how to start banging it out with the X-Press. editors for entertainment (reviewingfilm, books, etc.), creative writing features (writing and/or soliciting and arranging poetry, short stories, etc.), and CUP material (overseeing the obtain- ing and evaluating of material borrowed from our fellow Canadian University Press papers). Perks What's in it for you? Lots! Joining the X-Press is a good way to get to know your campus and teers if you have the time and interest, including - a great way to meet new people. There are other neat perks, too, like freebies for enter- tainment reviews (books, music, movies). On the practical side, it’s also valuable professional experience (a great way to sharpen your writing skills, for instance) and makes an impressive addition to your resume. We even feed you. (free pizza and pop served at staff meetings)! Who could ask for anything more? 2 2 Joining How do you get involved) It’s fiendishly simple. We're open to anybody anytime. Give usa call at 566-0629 (an answering machine will take your message if we're gone), or drop by our office in the Main Building (Room 06 in the basement, near those tempting vending ma- chines), where you can drop off messages or submissions if we aren’t in. There’s usually somebody there, though, and if you really want to get to know us up close and personal then you can come to our weekly staff meetings (featuring, among other things, FREE PIZZA\). Meetings are Tuesday evenings at 6:30, and the first meeting of the year is September four- teenth.
