' Ontario Race Track Betting Gains In 1927 Tonomb, Oct. so. -An annual summary issued by Hon. J. D. Montieth, Ontario, treasurer, this afternoon shows that Ontario race tracks for 1927 had an attendance in the aggregate of 73,370 greater than for 192B. Owing, however to reduction of the per diem tax on mile tracks from $7.500 to $5.000 provincial rev- enue dropped by $350,000. But with increased attendance wagering was greater than in 1926 with the result that despite the loss from tax re- duction the government's five per cent. commission on wagers brought the total revenue to the government from all racetracks to within $33,- 441 of the amount received for last year. .., |‘.
