Prices, however, were good and in total landed value the month was “up". Fishermen on both coasts landed a total oi’ 232,000 hundredweights of fish ohd shell- flSlI valued at $638,000 as reported to the Dominion Department ct Fisheries by its Inspectors. This represented a decrease in catch of 195.000 hundredwelghts as compared with March, 1941 but a. gain Ill value of $30,000. All figures are un- revised. The Atlantic coast contributed the gain for British Columbia's total catch was "oil" in both weight and value. Fishing is inactive in Que- bec during March, due to weather conditions, but the three Maritime Provinces all showed gains. Both catch and value were up in Iver: Brunswick. Catch was "off" in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island but. the value advanced in both in- stances. Sardines headed the list in New Brunswick fishing, A total of more than 22,000 barrels of the little iisn were taken during the month -al- most double the catch oi Maren, 1941.
