McLaren whose death occurred at her home on Grnitbn street Tuesday at the ad- vanced age of 87 years. Thelate Mrs. McLaren was a native of Bermuda, and when but a child was taken by her parents to Glasgow, Scot- land, where she lived sufficiently long to well remember some of the scenes and people although she never again visited her old home. Her father was an army officer, and with his wife and two daughters, one oi whom was the late Mary McKay came to the Island long years ago, took up their residence in this city and lived on Grafton Street until they were all called to their heavenly home. Some five weeks ago Mrs. McLaren fell and sustained injuries which, at her time of life, naterally hastened her demise. She was a Christian woman, beloved by her in- timate acqualntances and affection- ately regarded by all. She was one of the oldest members oi Zion Pres- byterian Chhrch, and she has left be- hind a record of good deeds. I-_fer uged husband now in his ninety- second year will have the sympathy of all in his sorrow. The scene of the battle, for a bet- ter enforcement of the Prohibition Act is again changed. On Tuesday morning it opened in Eiourls, where a field day was looked for. The twb detectives and Field Secretary _ Wil- son, accompanied by Mr. J. D. Ste- ivnrt, attorney for the prosecution, arrived in Sourls the night previous. Coirslderiiils excitement prevailed. es- pecially fn certain circles. ‘ 'l‘he_'-'prosecution was well prepared with their -evidence and were expect- ing victory. It came much _easier ,tbnn they had hoped for. As .Sti- ,pendiai-`y Magistrate, Mctluaid called ` he cubes Mr. J. J. Johnston, attor- rney for the defense, pleaded guilty for each. In all seven convictions were gained. The names of the convicted parties are: James C. Ferguson, Druggist, Souris, who was convicted on two ris, who was also convicted of two offences, and H. J. Mahon, Druggist, Souris, .convictedi of two oilenees. v Tha- last case was that of Isadore Cninsson, who was also convicted. One can was dismissed as the sum- mons had been served on the wrong party. V This Bnlshes the cases in the east- ern .part of the province and now the prosecution awaits the days set for 'tue several trials elsewhere, very ,niiichwncouraged by successes along the line. Ramsay, spoke before the men on the subject of Christ and the working man. At no stage of the world's history has the person and mission of Christ been so vital io the thoughts of the world as at the present time. Rev. E. H. Ramsay, who discussed the sublect, is a man of thought and practical action and has spent his life very closely be- tween the influences of Christianity and the great modern industrial de- velopments and was well prepared to deal with such a theme with thought and experience behind it. A large audience of men greeted the speaker.
