(Canadian Press) MONTREAL, Que, July 2i.-A ten per cent salary cut for all Can- adian National railways employees whose annual salary is in excess of $3,600 was announced today by Sir Henry Thornton, chairman, and president of the railway. The sal- ary cuts will be effective August I and will be in force for ten months, at the end of which time the de- duction will be restored unless the Board of directors otherwise orders. The paring of salaries was approv- ed in a resolution passed by the board of directors today. At the same time no salary in excess of $3,600 shall by virtue of such a re- duction be reduced below $3,600 it was agreed. The ten per cent will not be applicable in cases where the rate of pay and working conditions ar egoverned by scheduled agree- ments, lt was announced. The pupils were examined in their various sub- jects by their teachcr. Marjorie Harper, assisted by Mr. Almon Boswell, and showed by their prompt and accurate answers that the year's work has been a success. Very interesting parts of the afternoon program were two match- es. The Junlor Spelling Match was won by Suzanna Webster. The Geography Match was won by Ruth Cairns. The attendance prize was awarded to Ruth Cairns. A report of the year's work was given by the teacher.
