Zanuck in his production of 20th Century- Foxs "'1 his Above All" which opens at the Prince Edward Theatre on Monday. With all the power and emotional inlpact inherent. in the famous Eric Knight novel carelully preserved for its movie audience, "This Above All" bids fair to take its place among the screen epics of the decade. As he did in "How Green Was Mv Valley" and "The Grapes of Wrath," Producer Zunuck has given the film every- thing in the way of integrity. He entrusted the direction to Anatole Litvak, who has more than lived up to the trust laced in him. Its stars. yrono Potver and Joan Fclltaine, in the principal roles of Clive Briggs and Prudence Catha- wuy, are admirably suited to their parts, and both of them bring to the screen all of the romance and beauty which made the novel such a. best-seller. 'i“‘ne story has to do with the love of Clive Briggs, a deserter from the British Army after the siege of Dun- kirk, and Prudence Cathaway, the WAAF member, who take a brief holiday jaunt after they meet, and discover their love for each other. Prudence wants Clive to give him- self up to the authorities, and re- turn to his regiment, But Clive is bitter about the war. However, any brief recapitulation of the mere framework of the extraordinarily well done story would spoil the haunting beauty of "This Above All," For here is a. film that takes a universal theme, presents it in an understandable form in such a way that all will benefit from seeing it. It's a truly great motion picture. Featured in the cast oi the film are Thomas Mitchell. Henry Steph- enson, Nigel Bruce, Gladys Cooper. Philip Merlvale, Sara, Allgood and Alexander Knox. Anatole Litvak directed the film from a screenplay written by R, C. Sheriff. For what has been justly hailed t. ‘f i" I'm; “ewe- as the great love story oi’ oulr gen- ; ' _.
