During Lhe past two weeks the waterfront. at. llonaguo has been a beehive of industry with many ships arriving and leaving after having discharged iliull’ cargo and taken On another. Many of the ships coma from ‘Newfoundland and others from many other ports, This year marks the great- est shipping industry for some years owing lo the fart that Montague now possesses two ex- oellent wharves. the Stevens and the Government. both oi which are new, the Stevens wharf being completed last year, and the GOV- ermment wharf this year under the contractors. Noye, Bagnall and Rainer. Mr, John A. MacKenzie, Montague, was the inspector for this job. and he reported that the contracting firm fulfilled the contract to the letter. Mr. Mac- Kenzle reports that in contact with the captain of the “Nellie A Clultit", the captain QXDZGGSOG him- self as saying that the new wharf was one of he best he had ever tied to. The captain also said that the new Government wharf and the Stevens wharf should be un- ited with an adjunct wharf, and the two now useless docks filled in. This would provide greater flipping space and consequently a far greater number of ships would come to Montague to load produce for other ports. During the past. week sevrn ships have been tied up at ‘the wharves and i! fast Bs One departed, its place was taken by a new arrival.
