W Johnston who lectured in the Brighton Club Rooms last night, introduced a new series of lectures in the book of Revelation on the "Seven Church- es." HQ said that although the of the book oi‘ Revelation were ad- dressed to the seven churches. yet they were not intended to be con- fined to those only any more than Super Branches z Mon‘ were Paul's fourteen epistlcs which he wrote to those pecple_ In fact as Mr_ Johnston stated the whole book of Revelation was addressed to the seven churches. but; since the most of the events 1n the en- tire book applied to times in the future far beyond the lifetime of these seven churches it was there- fore evident that the messages in the book of Revelation were in- up to the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. He then raised the question as to wiry the Lord selected seven, for there were many other churches in Asia to whom these things could have been addressed with equal propriety t4) the seven. There must therefore have been some good reason for selecting the seven. In the first place Mr. Johnston said that the number seven was very conspicuous in the Bible. I-le 1e- ferred to all the other sevens in the book of Revelation, the seven plagues, the seven trumpets, the seven seals, etc. He said that seven denoted fullness or completeness. H; spoke of the seven colors in light, the seven notes in music, the seven days o1 the week. Further- more. the evangelist pointed out that not only did the seven churches refer prophecy of the Christian covering the entire Christian era. but that in the names of those seven churches are found the char- acter of each one of the seven periods He gave the significance of the names. In dealing with the first one in the series. he said that since the seven dealt with seven "stinct periods in the church the first one would of course apply go me ghurgh in the first century after Christ The name cf this church period, he said, was “Ephesus" which meant "desirable" and was a fit- ting sppelation to apply u; me church in the period of apostolic days. when the church first start- ed out filled with the power of tho BEL Spirit and being pure and F OLLOW" THE LEADER tended for all of God's people right - to a. complete m; Three Ethiopia children. reel- shown namin- free from contamination it was a desirable time, and one which met the Lord's approval.
