Scott, chief steward of the car-ferry steamer Prince Edward Island, whose home. is in this city, ra- ceived a telegram yesterday convey~ ing word that his son. Lleut. William A. Scott, of the Royal Flying Corps. is officially reported to be missing. Lieut. Scott left Charlottetown for Vancouver some years ago, where he was engaged in the legal profession. He enlisted in the Forestry Battalion In Vancouver early in the war and later transferred to the Royal Flying Corps. He was one of Charlotte- town's brightest young men, a brilli- ant tudent, having qualified for the Rhodes -scholarship, and won a splen- did name for himself as a young bar~ rlster in the West. When the call of his country came he heard it in. no unmiatakeable manner. it is to be hoped that yet some word may soon be received stating that he is safe, and thus allay the terrible anxiety of his parents. They were met at the station by the 4th»Regl- ment Band and a big turnout of the firemen in' uniform, the latter taking part in the reception as a special mark of honour'to their comrade, Gunner John Proud, the veteran of' two wars and one of the ablest and pluck- lest firemen who ever mounted 5. lad- der or fired a. gun. The other return- ing lads though unknown tothe most of the citizens, were none the less heartily welcomed and the cheers in honour of all the bunch werehear-tyl and thoroughly well deserved. The band played stirring patriotic airs' as the boys moved' in parade tothe City Hall, Gunner Proud occupied al position on the big chemical engine and the other lads being seated in Large Bros. most capaclous haroucba had also a touch of shell-shock. He left France on Jan. 17 1918 and has drawn byapair of handsome greys.-At the City Hall an immense throng had assembled. Here short addresses of welcome were delivered by Mayor Wright on behalf of the City, Col. Moore, on behalf of the Militia. and ex-Mayor P. B. Brown, the last named at the close of his remarks extending the hospitality of his hotel, the Revere to the returned boys dur- ing their stay in the city. Cheers were then given for the re- turned soldiers and for the King and the crowd' dispersed. GUNNER JOHN PROUD of Charlottetown left here in the spring of 1915 with the 2nd. Heavy Battery C. G. A. He took part in most of tho heavy fighting from Yprea to Vlmy and was wounded and been under treatment in No. 2 Lond- on General Hospital and Epsom Con- valescent Camp for some time. The veteran of two ware is looking first- rate after his trying experiences though he shows signs of the trying ordeals he has been through. _ _ PTE.J A MoLEOD who arrived last night is the son of Mr. John D. 'McLeod of Belfast. He enlisted in the 229th Battalion 2 1-2 years ago and was later transferred ts the 46th Battalion of Moeeelaw. He saw plenty of fighting and was wounded by shrapnel in the lungs at Lens one piece being still in his body. PTE. F. H. TROWSDALE belongs to Southport. He went away with the 105th Battalion being later _transferred to the 13th Battal- ion. He comes home minus is leg but with spirit undaunted. He took part in the battles of Ypresivimy and Lens. PTE. HDWARD VATCHER hails from Lower Montague the son of Mr. James Vatcher. He left here with the 105th later transferring to the fainous "fighting 26th liettapilon." After the battle of Vlmy Ri ge he. was stricken with pleurisy which ao affected his constitution thathe is now invalided home. ' PTI.
